The Best Coffee Shops in Rochester

SPoT Coffee has 9 locations in New York so with one here in Rochester. The ambiance is relaxed and the location is spacious with large windows that let in a lot of natural light. There is plenty of seating and the baristas are competent and friendly. The only drawback is SPoT can be a bit pricey.

Boulder Coffee is another popular place to grab coffee in Rochester. Boulder has 5 locations, all here in Rochester. Boulder has a comfortable atmosphere with relaxed music. They also offer spirits and live events so it has some appeal for nightlife. Check their event calendar before you visit if you are hoping to get some work done. Also keep in mind that the background music may be distracting if you like a quiet work space.

One of my personal favorite Rochester coffee shops is Joe Bean Coffee Roasters located on University Ave. Joe Bean roasts their beans on site and you can even look through a window to see the back room where it is done. Joe Bean brews their coffee very scientifically and the results are amazing. They often have coffee classes and a variety of blends available at their coffee bar. Check them out, they will open your eyes up to the science and art of coffee brewing.

Another popular spot in the Rochester coffee scene is Javas. Javas has 5 locations in Rochester and my favorite location is in downtown. It’s somewhat small but the decor has a lot of character. The music is quiet and it’s a good place to work or study. The food is pretty good, the coffee is decent, and the only downside is the cafe can get somewhat crowded. Javas has interesting artwork too.

In my opinion, the best Rochester coffee shop is by far Canaltown Coffee Roasters. They have the best coffee in Rochester if you ask me. Joe Bean is a close second. The beans are roasted on-site and you can’t beat the price and quality of Canaltown Coffee Roasters. Plus the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious. The only downside of this coffee shop is the location is somewhat inconvenient, however, parking is plentiful and easy. If you have to pick just one Rochester coffee shop to visit, visit Canaltown Coffee Roasters
